The United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania is hoping to raise $50,000 by April 30 to seed a new program, “Project Serve,” a fundraising campaign dedicated to helping military veterans in Fayette and Westmoreland counties.

Nearly 50,000 veterans reside in the two counties.

Project Serve’s mission is to bring together all the best veteran programs that communities have to offer, such as helping veterans find housing, job assistance, senior care and transportation.
