‘Grow a Row’ benefits food bank
Washington County Agricultural Fair Inc., in partnership with the Washington County Farm Bureau and Greater Washington County Food Bank, invite Washington County residents to plant a garden and “Grow a Row” for those in need.
The produce collected from the “extra row” will be donated to the Greater Washington County Food Bank and its pantries.
Those who make a commitment will receive four to five seed packets of their choice to get started. Participants can pick up seeds between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at the fair office or the food bank, 909 National Pike, Brownsville. The goal is to have 100 gardeners. The partnership has already reached out to 4-H members.
Participants are encouraged to share garden pictures and interact with gardeners on the Grow a Row event Facebook page. Gardening tips will be offered on a weekly basis.
Grow a Row produce can be dropped off in Hall 2 at the fairgrounds during the week of the fair, at the Greater Washington County Food Bank or at any of the county’s 45 food pantries, which can be found at www.GWCFB.org.
