For Angela Roberts, a senior at Peters Township High School, going gold means earning the highest achievement in Girl Scouting: the Gold Award.

The award, presented to Roberts by Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania, recognizes ninth- through 12th-grade girls who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through sustainable and measurable “Take Action” projects that address important community needs.

Roberts, daughter of Timothy and Cheryl Roberts, held a journalism class for third- through sixth-graders at Peters Township Public Library. She introduced students to the structure of articles and the basics of journalism, as well as the rich history of reporting.

She led the class of 17 students twice a week for five weeks, assisting each child in writing an article. At the end of the course, she compiled the students’ articles in a newsletter, which she distributed to the children’s parents and the library.

As a Girl Scout for 13 years, Roberts is a Girl Scout Ambassador of Troop 54327. She was supported in her Gold Award effort by her project adviser, Alyson Boyer, and her troop leaders, Amy Shope and Rochelle Koerbel. Her Gold Award project began in April 2016 and was completed in May 2016.

Roberts serves as brass captain for the Mighty Indian marching band. She plans to attend college to major in journalism.
