Brenna Taylor, a senior at Peters Township High School, has earned the Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting.

The award, presented to Taylor by Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania, recognizes ninth- through 12th-graders who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through sustainable and measurable “Take Action” projects that address important community needs.

Taylor serves in a leadership position as co-president of the GSA and as an officer of the fencing team. As a Girl Scout member for 12 years, she is an ambassador of Troop 51915.

She was supported in her Gold Award effort by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Her Gold Award project began in February 2015 and was completed in August 2016.

Taylor compiled a book that consisted of interviews she conducted with veterans from World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

For several of the men and women who volunteered, it was the first time they had told their stories. She has donated copies of her book to the Library of Congress, Peters Township Public Library, Peters Township High School and Peters Township Middle School.
