Women’s group donates books to kids in need
Pi Beta Phi fraternity for women recently distributed 500 new books to the Literacy Council of Southwestern Pennsylvania. The books will be donated to Washington Health System. Distribution was held in honor of Pi Beta Phi’s Fraternity Day of Service.
At the event, sisters of Pi Beta Phi packed up 500 baby book bags and information about literacy at the Pi Beta Phi house at Washington & Jefferson College. Mothers will be able to take the book bags home with their newborns. Research shows that access to new, age-appropriate books helps change children’s lives. Pi Beta Phi has partnered with First Book, a nonprofit that provides new books to its national network of schools and programs, and over the past several years, the fraternity has donated $1 million to literacy causes and given one million books to children in need.
