A Special Olympics Field Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 30 at Richardson Park on Frye Avenue in Bentleyville.

The goal of the event is to bring awareness to area communites about what Special Olympics is about and what it offers, and to recruit volunteers and athletes.

Special Olympics is not only important to promote sports activity levels, but also to provide the social aspect of life. Participants meet peers they may not know in the classroom and share stories and life experiences.

Stations involving all sports that are offered in Washington County will be set up so indiviuals can see which sports are most suitable for volunteers and athletes.

A free lunch will be provided to all participants.
