Firefighters from Peters Township and North Strabane fire departments will be installing free smoke detectors in homes in conjunction with the American Red Cross Sound the Alarm program. To schedule a free installation for Saturday, call the Peters Township Fire Department at 724-941-4176, or the North Strabane Township Fire Department at 724-745-1010.

The Kiwanis Club of Washington invites children 11 and younger to a free Breakfast with Santa Claus, featuring pancakes and sausage, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Penn Commercial Business/Technical School on Oak Springs Road, Washington. Bring a camera for photo opportunities with Santa. Older children and adults pay $5 for the food, juice and coffee or other beverages.

Seniors for Safe Driving offers a mature driver improvement course for those age 55 and older, to help drivers understand how aging affects driving abilities and provide insight about driving on today’s roadways. South Fayette Parks & Recreation will offer a bus trip to Wheeling Island Casino and Oglebay Holiday Lights Tour on Wednesday. The bus willd epart at noon from the South Fayette Senior Center, 515 Millers Run Road. A community dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Liberty United Methodist Church, 1330 Banetown Road, Washington. The menu includes creamed chicken and biscuit, mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw or fruit, dessert and beverage. Heritage Public Library will host the 3rd Annual Pajama Story Time at 6 and 7 p.m. on Thursday. Story stations, carolers, model train display, crafts, hot chocolate, cookies, and a special visitor. Each child will receive a book and small gift bag. Children can come in their pajamas. Registration is required, spaces limited. Donations appreciated. Visit the Train Gang at the Washington Crown Center on West Chestnut Street, through Dec. 24. Hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and from noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. View more than 15 trains and displays in operation. Admission is free, but donations are accepted. The display is located next to Hallmark, near the Food Court.
