Waynesburg University groups participating in three service missions
Thirty Waynesburg University students, along with faculty and staff members, are participating in three international service trips during their winter this week, with groups traveling to the Bahamas, Jamaica and the island of Bonaire.
The first mission trip began Saturday when nine students traveled to the island of Bonaire to work with Trans World Radio.
The organization works to spread the Word of God to many parts of the world and needs help with social media, recording radio content and facility maintenance.
Chad Sherman, assistant professor of communication, and Melinda Rush, secretary at the university, will lead the trip until the group returns Saturday.
A group of 10 students left New Year’s Eve on a service trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica from that will last until Saturday. Anthony Jarrell, resident director, and Pat Bristor, associate dean of students, will lead the students on a trip to serve with Mustard Seed Communities.
The students will engage in treatment and activities with children who have disabilities, and they may also help with maintenance.
The final group of 11 students, led by Julia Bausman, assistant professor of education, and Kerry Purnell, assistant registrar, left New Year’s Day to work with local children at the Nazareth Chapel and Victor Chapel in Nassau, Bahamas.
Between the two chapels, the group will be spending their time until Monday helping students who struggle academically to learn and share in the love of Jesus Christ.
