The Community Foundation of Greene County has announced that a new scholarship has been established at the foundation.

The Victor and Anna Mae Wancheck Beghini Scholarship has been established by Mr. and Mrs. Victor Beghini to benefit students graduating from Mapletown High School. Eligible students must be planning to attend a four-year college or university with a major in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics field.

Beginning in May, two students will be awarded a $3,000 scholarship to be used for their second year of college, based on verification of a declared major in a STEM field and successful completion of the first year of college. Additionally, recipients can reapply for the scholarship at the end of their second and third years of schooling.

Victor and Anna Mae Beghini, former residents of Greene County and graduates of Mapletown High School, have spent many years working and traveling throughout the country and the world.

“Anna Mae and I wanted to help students of the Mapletown area where we grew up,” Beghini said. “A scholarship helps a student with their college expenses and, having worked in the science and engineering fields my whole life, I hope to encourage these students to pursue their career dreams as well.”

Applications for the scholarship are included in CFGC’s single scholarship application form. The form allows students to apply for multiple scholarships available through CFGC, by providing one set of required documentation along with any essays, letters of recommendations and other information needed for the different scholarships.

The 2017 scholarship application will be available by early February, with most applications due by April 3. Senior students interested in applying for scholarships can check out the eligibility criteria and application requirements for each scholarship at www.cfgcpa.org or call 724-627-2010.

In addition to the application form, high school transcript and FAFSA student aid report, the Victor and Anna Mae Beghini Scholarship will require a short personal statement or essay describing the student’s passion and interest for STEM in terms of their past and current experience and future goals for a STEM career.

CFGC scholarships are awarded based on the stated qualifications for the award regardless of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation or military status.
