Mon Valley YMCA to offer lifeguard training

Mon Valley YMCA, 101 Taylor Run Road, Monongahela, will hold American Red Cross lifeguard training and recertification classes.

Lifeguard training will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday in March. The YMCA will work around SAT testing. Bring a snack.

Candidates must be able to swim fluently 300 yards using the four basic strokes and attend all classes. Instruction includes lifeguard, first aid, CPR/AED, oxygen delivery, disease prevention, classroom materials and book. Instructors will not teach swimming and or strokes.

Cost is $250 for YMCA members and $270 for nonmembers. Registration is required by calling Amy Dunay, aquatic director, instructor and coach at the YMCA, at 724-483-8077. Deadline to register is Feb. 22.

Recertification will be held March 12 and repeated on May 21. A water test will be given from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and lifeguard, first aid, CPR and AED will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

Participants must have held their current lifeguard certifications for the past three years.

Cost is $125, and registration is required. Call Bernie Koliscak at 412-818-8392 to register for one of the classes or for additional times and dates.
