WAYNESBURG – It’s the second year for the Victory 5K/Walk and organizers hope to raise more money for worthy causes.

Larry Calvert of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ruff Creek said the race this year will begin at 8 a.m. Aug. 12, followed by a mile run and a festival with food, live music, children’s activities and a food drive.

All monetary proceeds will benefit Crisis Pregnancy Center of Greene County, a Christian organization which “in no way facilitates abortions,” Calvert said.

Calvert said the donations will help achieve “victory over uncertainty and victory over personal hardships.”

“Together, we can help those who are struggling in our community,” he said.

He said the race is under a new partnership this year with Rolling Meadows Church of God in Franklin Township. Last year, Bethlehem Baptist partnered with First Church of the Nazarene in Franklin Township to raise $3,720 for the Corner Cupboard Food Bank and the Alexa Grace Pester Memorial Scholarship Fund, formed in 2015 to help area children attend college.

Calvert said they had a “connection” with a member at the Nazarene church, who had stepped down, so they reached out to Rolling Meadows to see if they were interested in hosting the race.

Calvert said they hope to beat last year’s 96 participants in the 5K.

“It’s something that we felt it could be a community event that could help address community issues while at the same time provide a fun atmosphere for families,” he said.
