WCCF accepting applications for funds

Washington County Community Foundation is accepting applications for the following Field of Interest Funds:

Abernathy Fund for Conservation – One grant of $2,500. Requests are accepted for conservation projects in Washington County. The fund was created by the Abernathy Family in 1999 to support conservation projects in Washington County and to provide support to Washington & Jefferson College for upkeep of the Abernathy Nature Preserve.

Arts Fund – One grant of $10,000. Requests are accepted for arts education and arts appreciation, including the performing, visual and creative arts, as well as cultural and historical projects in Washington County.

Canonsburg Community Fund – One grant of $6,000. Requests are accepted for charitable projects benefiting the community of Canonsburg.

Fund for Animal Care – One grant of $100. Requests are accepted for charitable projects that support the care of domesticated and undomesticated animals with preference given to animal care within the Claysville and Donegal Township area. The fund was created by Cathie Laird, a retired McGuffey teacher with a desire to help animals and the local community.

Craig Gnagey Memorial Fund – One grant of $750. Requests are accepted for youth projects benefiting the communities served by Trinity and Washington school districts. The fund was created by the family and friends of Craig Gnagey, a man who enjoyed athletics and giving back to the community, particularly through youth programming.

Hart History Fund – One grant of $1,000. Requests are accepted for historical education and preservation in Washington County. The fund was created by the late Dr. Thomas Hart and his wife, Myrna Hart. Dr. Hart retired as a professor in Washington & Jefferson College’s biology department after teaching for 28 years. He served as a lecturer and historian for the Bradford House Historical Association.

Miss Judy Hopson Fund – One grant of $250. Requests are accepted for projects providing arts programming for the youth of Washington County. The fund was created by family and friends of Judy Hopson, former resident art instructor of the Washington Community Arts and Cultural Center, to honor her dedication and commitment to giving the gifts of imagination, confidence, and creativity to everyone in the community.

McBride-McMaster Fund – One grant of $4,000. Requests are accepted for projects that support people in need or promote historical education or preservation. The fund was created by the late Dr. Gilbert and Margaret McBride McMaster. Dr. Gilbert worked as an anesthesiologist at Washington Hospital, and his wife, Margaret, was involved with numerous local charities.

James C. Miller Memorial Fund – One grant of $150. Requests are accepted for projects benefiting the victims of violent crimes and/or their families. The fund was created by the family and friends of James C. Miller, who was a vice president and co-owner of Kadon Corp.

Mother’s Fund – Grants totaling $16,000, including one grant of $10,000. Requests are accepted for projects that benefit disadvantaged women and/or children in Washington County.

Neighborhood Drug Awareness Corps Fund – One grant of $1,000. Requests are accepted for community drug and alcohol prevention programs. The fund was created by the dissolution of the NDAC board and approved by Washington County Orphans Court.

Joseph F. Perkins Fund – One grant of $6,000. Requests are accepted for youth projects in the Burgettstown area. The fund was created by a bequest from the estate of Joseph F. Perkins, a Burgettstown native who was a relentless inventor with a strong interest in astrology and numerology.

Community Endowment for Peters Township – One grant of $2,500. Requests are accepted for projects benefiting the community of Peters Township. The fund was created by the WCCF with proceeds of a Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra concert held at Peters Township High School in June 2002.

Judge Samuel L. Rodgers Fund – One grant of $250. Requests are accepted for literacy projects in Washington County. The fund was created by Marta Rodgers-Merchant to honor her father on his 80th birthday. Judge Rodgers, who served on Commonwealth Court and the Washington County Court of Common Pleas, is now deceased.

Vitullo Family Fund – One grant of $150. Requests are accepted for charitable projects benefiting the community of Canonsburg. The fund was created by the family and friends of Eutimio R. and Elizabeth G. Vitullo, a couple who shared a passion for volunteering.

Washington County Youth Conservation Camp Fund – One grant of $150. Requests are accepted for conservation projects, particularly those that educate youth about conservation. The fund was created by the former Washington County Youth Conservation Camp.

Women of Philanthropy Grants – Grants totaling $6,000. Requests are accepted for projects that benefit disadvantaged women and/or children in Washington County, as well as other charitable activities in Washington County.
