Washington Rotary Club awards scholarships

The Rotary Club of Washington awarded scholarships May 30 to recent high school graduates.
Rotary Academic Scholarships were presented to Victoria Clarchick of the Avella School District; Dante Marcucci, Burgettstown; Calvin Lodge, Fort Cherry; Sean Edlis, McGuffey, and Paige Smith, Washington.
Two memorial scholarships also were announced. The Dr. Doug Masciola Award was presented to Adam Raggi of the Trinity School District, and the Dr. David Scarborough Award will be presented to a Washington & Jefferson College graduate to be named. Both Masciola, former superintendent of the Trinity School District, and Scarborough, former dean of student affairs and basketball coach at W&J, were active Rotarians.
Clyde Tracanna Scholarship Awards were issued in partnership with the Washington County Community Foundation to high school seniors for volunteerism and sense of community. The Tracanna awards were presented to Patrick Scott of the McGuffey School District; Sadie Presto, Trinity, and Steven Shallcross, Washington. The Tracanna awards were named after Clyde Tracanna, a former Rotarian who established the foundation scholarship in the mid-1980s.
Each student was presented with a plaque along with a $1,000 check.
