WCCF awards more than $160,000 to area students

Washington County Community Foundation has completed its post-secondary scholarship cycle for 2017, awarding 72 scholarships totaling $160,500.
The funds, awards, students, high schools and their college plans are:
Alice Boone Main Memorial Fund – Daunice Briggs, McGuffey High School, received $500 to attend Clarion University and will study accounting.
Arthur V. Ciervo Scholarship Fund – Bailey Bauer, Bethlehem-Center, received $500 to attend California University of Pennsylvania and will study chemistry.
Black Family Scholarship Fund – Awards of $1,000 each went to Rodney Parson, West Greene High School, who will study agriculture science/engineering at West Virginia University, and Cassandra Muhr, Avella High School, who will study music and communications at Washington & Jefferson College.
Buckholt Science Scholarship Fund – Ty Bedillion, McGuffey High School, received $500 and will study engineering at Washington & Jefferson College.
Burgettstown Junior-Senior High School Student Council Leadership Scholarship Fund – Emma Fleeman, Burgettstown High School, received $500 and will study music education at Duquesne University.
Burgettstown Lions Club Scholarship Fund – Three Burgettstown High School seniors received scholarships. Madison Borsos received $250 and will study architecture at Penn State University; Emma Fleeman received $250 to pursue music education at Duquesne University; and Jordan Palmer received $500 and will study nursing at Carlow University.
CAS/Dr. Kim Stacher Scholarship Fund – Patrick Hughes, West Greene High School, received $1,000 and will study mechanical engineering at Geneva College.
Chapman Family Scholarship Fund – Eleven awards were made from this fund. They went to:
• Rebecca Staley, California High School, $2,000 to study physical therapy at California University of Pennsylvania.
• Taylor Simmons, Canon-McMillan High School, $2,000 to study nursing at the Community College of Allegheny County.
• Joska Troutman, Peters Township High School, $2,000 to attend Beaver County Community College to become a professional pilot.
• Shayna Bright, Trinity High School, $2,000 to study graphic design at Pittsburgh Technical College.
• McKenzie Mungai, Trinity High School, $4,000 to study marine science at Eckerd College.
• Emma Williams, Avella High School, $4,000 to study international studies/education at Waynesburg University.
• Hannah Davidson, Bethlehem- Center High School, $4,000 to study nursing at Waynesburg University.
• Samantha Christopher, California High School, $4,000 to study psychology at California University of Pennsylvania.
• Hunter Curry, Ringgold High School, $4,000 to study biochemistry and molecular biology at Liberty University.
• Dawn Anna Trout, West Greene High School, $4,000 to study at Point Park University.
• Jamie Lawrence, Jefferson-Morgan High School, $4,000 to study exercise science at Chatham University.
Charles Pappas, Sr. Scholarship Fund – Jocelynn DePaul, Burgettstown High School, received $1,500 and will study pre-law at Washington & Jefferson College.
Christman Family Scholarship Fund – Maya Wells, Washington High School, received $4,000 and will study communications at Robert Morris University.
CHROME FCU/Ed Orisko Scholarship – Three awards of $1,500 each went to:
• Megan Black, Peters Township High School, who will study electrical engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.
• Maria Lengwin, Ringgold High School, who will study chemical engineering at the University of Notre Dame.
• Jake Rose, Peters Township High School, who will major in biomedical engineering at Case Western Reserve University.
Clyde J. Tracanna/Washington Rotary Club Educational and Vocational Fund – Awards of $1,000 each were made to:
• Patrick Scott, McGuffey High School, who will study economics at Duquesne University.
• Sadie Presto, Trinity High School, who will study physical therapy at the University of Pittsburgh Titusville.
• Steven Shallcross, Washington High School, who will study exercise science at Youngstown State University.
Curtis Wachter Scholarship Fund – Heather Shiel, Burgettstown High School, received $500 to study photography at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
Cynthia McCuen Scholarship Fund – Melissa Bundash, McGuffey High School, received $1,000 to study at California University of Pennsylvania to become a physical therapy assistant.
D. Jack & Geraldine L. Gaido Memorial Scholarship Fund – Stephen Rydzak, Trinity High School, received $4,000 to study accounting at Washington & Jefferson College.
Dave Pew Memorial Scholarship Fund – Riley Kelly, Peters Township High School, received $500 and will study at Penn State University.
David O. and Sara F. Johnson Family Education Fund – Colin Chapman, McGuffey High School, received $1,000 and will study business at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Dr. Paul Pipik Fund for Study in the Health Sciences – Madison Detrick, Bethlehem-Center High School, received $850 and will study biochemistry at Shepherd University.
Elizabeth Plumer Memorial Scholarship – Michael Carrier, Trinity High School, received $1,000 and will study special education at Duquesne University.
Friends of MarkWest Scholarship Fund II – Ten awards of $4,000 each were made from this fund. Recipients are:
• Victoria Clarchick, Avella High School, who will study petroleum engineering at Marietta College.
• Sarah Maidment, Avella High School, who will study biology at St. Vincent College.
• Dante Marcucci, Burgettstown High School, who will study mathematics at Penn State University.
• Luke Smith, Burgettstown High School, who will study animal science/pre-vet at the University of Findlay.
• Matthew Cimino, Chartiers-Houston High School, who will study pharmacy at West Virginia University.
• Nicole Coffield, Fort Cherry High School, who will major in engineering at Robert Morris University.
• Sean McAdoo, McGuffey High School, who will study wildlife and fisheries management at Frostburg State University.
• D’Andra Davis, McGuffey High School, who will major in chemical engineering at West Virginia University.
• Tanner Coughenour, Trinity High School, who will study rail transportation engineering at Penn State University, Altoona campus.
• Kaci Hott, Trinity High School, who will study chemical engineering at Penn State University, Altoona campus.
Hunter Lafe McAdoo Scholarship Fund – Melissa Bundash, McGuffey High School, received $1,000 to study at California University of Pennsylvania to become a physical therapy assistant.
John & Sophie Choratch Scholarship Fund - Three awards of $8,000 each were made from this fund. Recipients are:
• Michael Adams, California High School, who will study business and finance at California University of Pennsylvania.
• Derek Richards, Bentworth High School, who will study civil engineering at Point Park University.
• Hunter Saieva, Chartiers-Houston High School, who will study psychology at Penn State University.
Joseph P. Femiani Memorial Scholarship – Sarah Neky, Peters Township High School, received $1,000 and will study health sciences in the pre-physician assistant program at Purdue University.
Kerns Family Scholarship Fund – Rachel Bayer, McGuffey High School, received $1,000 and will study animal science and business management at Penn State University.
Kirk C. Moninger Fund – Shaelyn Ross, Trinity High School, received $400 and will study plastics engineering technology at Pennsylvania State University Behrend.
Kiwanis Club of Washington Scholarship Fund – Ashlee Wilkes, Peters Township High School, received $1,000 and will study radiologic technology at California University of Pennsylvania.
Linda LeFever Scholarship Fund – Eileen Patten received $1,000 to continue studies at Carnegie Mellon University.
Margaret Pitek Ciervo Scholarship Fund – Shannon Ortosky, Bethlehem- Center High School, received $500 and will study secondary education/mathematics at California University of Pennsylvania.
Megan J. Phillis Scholarship Fund for Academic Excellence – Dylan Bertovich, Burgettstown High School, received $500 and will study biology at Washington & Jefferson College.
Olivia Scott Scholarship Fund – Awards of $1,000 each were made to:
• John Ross, Trinity High School, who will study civil engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.
• Rielly Steuernagel, McGuffey High School, who will study chemistry and theater at Allegheny College.
Ringgold Alumni Scholarship Fund – Makayla Eslep, Ringgold High School, received $250 and will study education at Bethany College.
Ronald T. Miller, II Scholarship Fund – Daniel Kita, Peters Township High School, received $1,000 and will study engineering at Penn State University.
Ryan Johnston & Vaughn Johnston Scholarship Fund – Ty Bedillion, McGuffey High School, received $1,000 to study engineering at Washington & Jefferson College.
Sam & Bev Minor Fund – Cynthia Rush, Bentworth High School, received $1,000 and will study criminology and international affairs at Slippery Rock University.
Sprowls College & Post-Graduate Scholarship Fund – Alyssa Ketter, Fort Cherry High School, received $1,000 and will study secondary and special education at California University of Pennsylvania.
Washington County Gay Straight Alliance Scholarship Fund - Two awards of $4,000 each were made from this fund. Recipients are:
• Elizabeth Gysi, Washington High School, who will study pre-med at the University of Pittsburgh.
• Kaitlyn Sobiech, Canon-McMillan High School, wjp will study psychology at Clarion University.
Washington County Visiting Nurses’ Association Scholarship Fund – Four awards were made from this fund:
• Matthias Campion, Peters Township High School graduate who studies nursing at Cedarville University, received $2,000.
• Rachel Campion, Peters Township High School graduate who studies nursing at West Virginia Wesleyan College, received $2,000.
• Lauren McGavitt, Trinity High School graduate who studies nursing at Waynesburg University, received $2,000.
• Devin Tennant, Chartiers-Houston graduate who studies nursing at Washington Hospital School of Nursing, received $4,000.
Washington Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Scholarship Fund – Paige Scarfo, Bentworth High School, received $1,000 to study nursing at the Washington Hospital School of Nursing.
William L. & Barbara M. Laird Fund – Tori Danna, McGuffey High School, received $1,000 to study early childhood education and special education at Slippery Rock University.
