Avella Area High School will graduate 37 seniors
Avella Area High School will graduate 37 seniors at commencement exercises at 7:30 p.m. June 2 at the high school stadium.
Victoria Clarchick is the valedictorian and Sarah Maidment is the salutatorian. The class speaker is Robert Scott.
Clarchick is the daughter of John Clarchick of Greensburg and Lynn Maidment-Clarchick of Avella.
She has received highest honor roll with distinction since 2011 and served as the treasurer of the National Honor Society.
She received the Marietta College Compass Scholarship, the Friends of Mark West Scholarship Fund II and the Washington Rotary Club Academic Scholarship. Clarchick received the Challenge Award for Academic Excellence in her sophomore and junior years.
Clarchick was a member of the varsity volleyball team and was a captain of the varsity cheerleading squad and statistician for the boys basketball team.
She also was a member of the drama club, serving as president and treasurer, varsity academic team and marching and concert band.
She will attend Marietta College to pursue a degree in petroleum engineering.
Maidment is the daughter of Bill and Heather Maidment of Avella.
She is a recipient of the Amelia Earhart Zonta award for community service and is Avella’s honoree for Junior Woman.
She received a merit scholarship from St. Vincent College, the Friends of Mark West Scholarship Fund II, the American Legion Scholarship and the alumni grant from St. Vincent.
She also received a Gold Key and several Silver Keys in the Scholastic Art Competition.
Maidment was vice president of the National Honor Society and was president of both the science and community service clubs. She was a member of the volleyball and basketball teams and was a section leader in the marching band.
She also was captain of the Enviorthon team and the Quiz Bowl team and a member of the newspaper staff.
Maidment will attend St. Vincent College to major in biology and minor in photography.
