More than 130 students from schools throughout Washington County participated in the annual essay contest sponsored by the Washington County Firemen’s Association. This year, the contest was based on the theme “Home Fire Safety.” Students in grades 4-7 wrote a minimum of two pages on ways to prevent fires, escape routes and calling 911 in an emergency. Winners were chosen based upon selected criteria and were presented with an awards ceremony at the Washington County Fire Academy on Oct. 15 to wrap up the national campaign for fire prevention week.
