Students recognized

At the October meeting of Old Trails Business and Professional Womens’ Club, three local high school students were recognized as Students of the Month. Emily LaCarte, left, daughter of Mike and Susan LaCarte and a senior at Charleroi High School, is on the varsity soccer team, president of the National Honor Society, vice president of the senior class, captain of the Drumline, 2017 PA Lion’s All-State Band and 2017 District Band. She plans to pursue a degree in business at Penn State or Virginia Tech. Marissa Filby, right, daughter of Jeff and Linda Filby and a senior at Charleroi High School, attends Mon Valley Career & Technology Center. She is involved with horses and competes in barrel racing. At Mon Valley CTC, she is team captain of the Bot IQ Team. Over the summer she went to PFEW and future Docs of Medical Leaders. Marissa plans to obtain a degree in forensics and later a pre-medical degree to become a forensic pathologist. Brandon Paul, center, son of Ronald and Miryam Paul and a senior at Beth Center High School, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He is the drum major for the marching band and a member of the Leo Club. Brandon is also involved in the martial art Hapkido. He plans to serve a mission for two years for the LDS Church and attend Brigham Young University to major in business or engineering.
