2000 Turkeys nearing finish line
With five days left until Thanksgiving Day, the 2000 Turkeys campaign is heading into the home stretch.
At Thanksgiving, many of us consider the blessings in our lives: our families and friends, our homes, our health, our jobs, and a winning record for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
But there are more than 24,500 people in Washington County who won’t be able to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner without the help of 2000 Turkeys and the Greater Washington County Food Bank.
So far, hundreds of Washington County individuals, businesses and organizations have stepped up to give their less fortunate neighbors a hand, donating to the 2000 Turkeys campaign. We’re close to our annual goal of raising $100,000.
We’re amazed. We’re grateful to Shepherd’s Finance LLC, which this week matched all donations, up to $12,500, sent to 2000 Turkeys since last Friday. And we’re thankful for the donation from 8-year-old Giovani Gadani and his siblings, Dante and Emilia, 6, students at Joe Walker Elementary School, who saved their change for a week and dropped off a bagful of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters with their parents, Mike and Brie.
Turkey placards are for sale at the Canonsburg and Washington Shop ‘n Save stores, and donation jars are set up at locations throughout Washington County.
Every dollar raised through 2000 Turkeys goes toward making sure our neighbors in need can spend Thanksgiving around a table with their families celebrating with a holiday meal. Let’s do this.
