Three scouts from Boy Scout Troop 1313, McMurray, sponsored by St. Benedict the Abbot Catholic Church, have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. All three of are members of The Order of the Arrow, scouting’s service fraternity.

  • Chad James Spencer
  • , son of Carol and Ellsworth Spencer of McMurray, achieved his Eagle Scout rank in late 2016. He has been a scout for seven years, earning 28 merit badges. Eleven of his badges were required for the Eagle Scout rank. His Eagle Scout project involved removing a broken 60-foot fence at the entrance to Timber Lake and replacing it with a new one, and building a new twin fence across the street. Chad is a 2017 Peters Township High School graduate. Chad is studying electrical engineering with a focus on audio devices at Penn State University.
  • Kasmier Moncheck
  • earned his Eagle Scout rank on Jan. 11. Kasmier, 14, began scouting as a Tiger Cub in Pack 1313, which is also sponsored by St. Benedict’s. As a Cub Scout, Kasmier earned the Arrow of Light Award, the highest attainable award in Cub Scouts. He is a Brotherhood member in the Order of the Arrow, scouting’s National Honor Society. Kas also earned the Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei and Ad Altare Dei Catholic awards. To date, he has earned 66 merit badges. Kasmier was adopted from the Republic of Belarus in August 2003, and he wanted to give back to “kids who started out” just like him. For his Eagle Scout project, he organized a collection and delivery of toys, books, formula and non-perishable food items for the Children’s Home of Pittsburgh. Additionally, he oversaw the construction and delivery of two bookshelves.
  • Marcus Jun Wei Ng Putz
  • , son of Susi Ng and Rainer Putz of McMurray, achieved his Eagle Scout rank in May. He began as a Tiger Cub in Taipei, Taiwan. Upon moving to the United States, he crossed over to Boy Scouts. He earned 31 merit badges. For his Eagle Scout project, Marcus refinished and renovated bridges along the Wheeling Heritage Trail. Marcus is a 2017 graduate of Peters Township High School. He is now pursuing an engineering degree at Penn State University.
