The Greene County Department of Recreation’s six-week fall exercise session begins Oct. 8, with five different classes.

Exercise classes for the fall session include Buti Yoga, cardio kickboxing, Core de Force, gentle yoga and PiYo. Individual classes are $5 each. A minimum of nine registered and pre-paid participants are required to hold each class. Cancellations will be decided two days prior to class. Drop-ins are welcome, although those who plan to attend are encouraged to call and verify the schedule.

All classes will be held at the Greene County Fairgrounds in the upper level of Building 10, unless otherwise noted. Participants should wear sweat-absorbing clothes and good support shoes, and bring water and towels. Mats are required for Buti Yoga, Core de Force, gentle yoga and PiYo.

The fall exercise class schedule is as follows:

Sundays – PiYo at 3:30 p.m.; Core de Force, 4:30 p.m.

Mondays – Cardio kickboxing, 5 p.m.

Tuesdays – Gentle yoga, 5 p.m.

Wednesdays – Cardio kickboxing, 5 p.m.; PiYo, 6 p.m.

Thursdays – Buti Yoga, 6:15 p.m.

Buti Yoga is a practice of high-intensity fusion of yoga, tribal dance and plyometrics. Classes combine cardio, strength training and flexibility.

Cardio kickboxing combines upper body movements, like jabs, crosses, hooks and upper cuts, with lower body movements, such as knee strikes and kicks. Instructor Deneen Chulick will demonstrate movements of punches, kicks and knee strikes to fast-paced music.

Core de Force is a combination of boxing, kickboxing and Muay Thai, with fat-blasting cardio and bodyweight moves to help zero in on a complete body-shredding workout. The 45-minute class is broken down into three-minute intervals that create a 360-degree core blast.

Gentle yoga is a gentler style of Hatha yoga that is suitable for beginners and senior citizens. It improves balance and overall health, while increasing flexibility and circulation. Shoes will not be worn during the class.

PiYo is a hybrid athletic workout that combines the mind and body practices of Pilates and yoga as well as the principles of stretch, strength training, conditioning and dynamic movement.

Classes may be canceled due to lack of participation or inclement weather. Announcements will be made on WANB Radio and the Greene County Commissioners Facebook page.
