Author Book Talk will begin at 6 p.m. Sept. 11. Local author Pastor John Dorean will discuss his latest book, “Our Girl,” written with the assistance of his wife’s journals about life with their daughter, Bethany. Light refreshments will be served.

Movie Night will begin at 6 p.m. Sept. 13. “Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie” will be shown. Registration is required. Free popcorn and beverages will be provided.

Bowlby Rocks, a new program, will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 16. Bring a couple clean rocks and a few ideas to paint, and the library will guide participants in getting their rocks started. The Bowlby Rocks’ goal is to find a rock, paint a rock and hide a rock. Call the library to register.

Wild Kratts Book Bandits for 3- to 8-year-olds will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 23. There will be critter-themed games, crafts, and a light lunch. Call to register.

Girls Who Code: Interest Meeting for sixth- through 12th-graders will be held at 5:30 p.m. Spet. 14. Girls will use computer science to create websites, apps or even robots. Club members work in teams to design and build a Computer Science Impact Project that solves real-world problems they care about through code. The first meeting is to gauge community interest; future meeting times will be decided at the meeting. Crafter’s Day is held at 6 p.m. the third Thursday of each month. Crafters of all types are welcome. Each crafterday also will include printed instructions and a live demonstration on how to make a simple craft.

Chess Club will meet at 10 a.m. Sept. 9. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Instructors will be available to teach beginning players, or to teach strategies to those who already know how to play.

Lego Club will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Sept. 11 and 25. All age groups are welcome. The Sept. 25 session will include a STEM building challenge, “Can your mini-figure survive the zipline?”

Fall story time registration will begin Sept. 12. Sessions are as follows:

• Preschool story time, for ages 3- to 5-year-olds – 2 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 3 through Dec. 5.

• Toddler story time, for 1 1/2- to 2-year-olds – 10:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 4 through Dec. 6.

• Toddler story times, for 2 1/2- to 3-year-olds – 11:30 a.m. to noon Wednesdays, Oct. 4 through Dec. 6.

Noontime Lunch with Friends will be held Sept. 12. Margie Lenox will review a Mary Doria Russell fictional story about very real people in 1921 Cairo, Egypt. The program is free. Lunch is available after the program for $6.

Wine Down and Paint will begin at 6 p.m. Sept. 15. BYOB; appetizers will be served. Participants must be over 21. Paint a wine glass with step-by-step instructions by artist Katelynn Falleroni. Cost is $30, and registration is encouraged.

Design Squad, a six-session building and inventing course for third- through sixth-graders, will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. every other Monday, beginning Sept. 18. Using the PBS Kids program “Design Squad,” students will work in small groups to figure out and build solutions to different design challenges each session. Students must register by Sept. 11. The program is free, but enrollment is limited.

National Talk-Like-a-Pirate Day will be observed Sept. 19. Anyone who stops in the Children’s Department can get a pirate tattoo. “Silly Science: PIRATES” also will be offered at 1 p.m. for preschoolers 3 to 6 years old. There will be a story and easy pirate-related experiments. The program is free, but enrollment is limited.

Readers of the Lost Ark Book Club will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 21. “Clapton: The Autobiography” by Eric Clapton will be discussed. Feel free to bring a snack.

Middle Grade Book Club for sixth- through eighth-graders will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21. Discuss books, make a craft and eat pizza.

Book of the month in the Children’s Department is “The Golden Age of Pirates; an Interactive History Adventure” by Bob Temple. The random-drawing contest is open to children 12 and younger. The winning entry will be drawn Sept. 30.

CitiBooks, a used books bookstore in the lower level of the library, is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
