Calvin United Presbyterian Church, 307 Spring St., Brownsville, will host a Fall Craft Fundraiser from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 24. Doors open at 12:30. Choose between two fall design options. Tickets are $35 per person and include food, beverages, tools and materials to complete the project. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling Diane at 724-880-0229.
Cokeburg Presbyterian Church will host a chicken-and-biscuit dinner from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m Sept. 26. Dinner includes chicken, mashed potatoes, salad, applesauce and dessert. Pop will be sold separately. Cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children. Takeout will be available. There will be a Chinese auctiion.
Peters Township Police Department will hold its fall Citizens Police Academy from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 26 to Nov. 14. Participants will be taught the basics of criminal law, with an emphasis on the crimes code and vehicle code. The program also will include patrol tactics, the processing of crime scenes, interview and interrogation and other subjects. Spaghetti dinner to benefit the Canonsburg Police Department will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 30 at Grace Baptist Church of Canonsburg. Cost is a financial donation of any amount. Peters Township hazardous waste collection event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Public Works facility, 750 Bebout Road, Venetia. The event is for Peters Township residents only. There will be a minimum charge of $10 per household. The township reserves the right to charge for quantities greater than 10 gallons. Paints, household cleaners, pesticides, automotive batteries/fluids and similar items will be accepted. Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania is looking for individuals, businesses, schools, churches and agencies to join them in saying “No More” to domestic violence and unhealthy relationships. In October, DVSSP is asking the community to show their support by telling the organization why they say “No More” to violence to help raise awareness. Giant Oaks Garden Club of Peters Township will meet at 11:15 a.m. Oct. 5 at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 905 E. McMurray Road, Murray. Peters Township High School’s Mighty Indian marching band will host its annual band festival at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at the high school stadium, 264 E. McMurray Road. In addition to Peters Township, other bands will include Brentwood, Charleroi and South Allegheny high schools. Robert Morris University marching band also will perform. Tickets will be sold at the gate. Adult admission is $6 and student/senior citizens admission is $4. Concession stands will be open.
