Peters Township is holding a contest to name a community park that it plans to develop on part of the former Rolling Hills Country Club property that it recently acquired. Peters Township Fire Department will celebrate Fire Prevention Month with an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 30. Visitors can tour the fire station, meet the firefighters, check out the trucks, go through the fire safety house, watch live demonstrations and participate in the children’s firefighter challenge. There will be free food and refreshments, plus music and entertainment.
Christian W. Klay Winery, 412 Fayette Spring Road, Chalk Hill, will host the 16th annual Ex-Paw-Sition Oct. 1, beginning at noon. The even will feature a pet parade, contest, blessing of the animals, food, craft vendors and adoption booth by Fayette Friends of Animals. A rabies clinic will be open from noon to 1 p.m. Microchips will be available for $25 per pet; distemper and rabies shots are $15 each. The winery is located at 412 Fayette Spring Road, off Route 40.
Peters Township Chamber of Commerce’s ninth annual Chamber Chase, a family-friendly, USATF-sanctioned 5K run/walk, will begin at 9 a.m. Oct. 14 at Arrowhead Trail at Peterswood Park. Registration will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Peters Township Recreation Center and from 7:15 to 8:45 a.m. on race day. Cost is $25 for adults and children 15 and older, and $10 for children 14 and younger. Prizes will be awarded for both the run and the walk. Proceeds will benefit the Peters Township Chamber of Commerce’s Community and Scholarship Fund and PTMS Cool 2 Be Clean.
