Char-Houston does good
“Operation Do Good” was in full swing at Chartiers-Houston High School before the holidays as the student government organized a gift drive, maintaining a 10-year tradition, and student groups caroled at various locations.
More than 100 students in ninth-through-twelfth grades collected gifts for the Salvation Army’s Treasures for Children program. Six bikes, clothes, diapers and other popular toys were collected for 100 recipients.
Each year, the group commits to providing gifts to at least 100 children.
Through fundraising, like Homecoming Spirit Week, Holiday Spirit Week and club dues, the group raised more than $1,200 for gift cards and other necessities for three local families and a donation to Washington Area Humane Society to help with needs this winter.
The student government also organized three groups of carolers to sing to patients and residents of Kane Rehabilitation in Scott Township, Bridgeville Rehabilitation and Evergreen Assisted Living in Washington.
The students provided Angel Tree gifts to ten Gallagher Hospice patients.
The LEO Club, with sponsor Suzanne Ashmore, caroled for residents at the former Washington County Health Center.
