The second program in Rick Sebak’s Kickstarter-funded NEBBY series is a celebration of several places in and around Pittsburgh where you can find good meat.

The 30-minute program is titled “Meat Pittsburgh” and it premieres at 8 p.m. Thursday on WQED-TV.

A 30-second promo spot can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfuPRf6RgmE.

Meat Pittsburgh includes a side of beef at the restaurant called Whitfield in the Ace Hotel in East Liberty as well as locally made hot-dogs at the classic Shorty’s Lunch in Washington, among others.

“We traveled all around Greater Pittsburgh,” said Sebak (who will celebrate 30 years at WQED this year.) “And we’ve learned a lot. I had never had a fresh turkey for Thanksgiving before, but since I’ve been to Pounds Turkey Farm and I roasted one of their birds, I know I will always want to return every year just before Turkey Day.”

The program starts with a warning to let folks know that the program may not appeal to some who don’t want to know about the animal origins and processing of meat. Then Sebak and his cameraman Frank Caloiero hit the road. Their program features visits to:

  • Shorty’s Lunch in Washington
  • Green Valley Packing, home of Albert’s Meats, in Taylorstown
  • Ricci’s Italian Sausage in Kennedy Township
  • Showcase BBQ in Homewood
  • Jamison Farm near Latrobe
  • Salem’s Market & Grill in the Strip
  • Pounds Turkey Farm
