Washington Co. FFA teams compete

Individual first place in Milk Quality is Riley Carter from HG Parkinson.

On Jan. 26, Trinity High School hosted local FFA chapters, Avella, Fort Cherry HG Parkinson, McGuffey and Trinity, in the Milk Quality and Products Career Development event. Students were tested on their knowledge of the dairy industry, from the farm to the processing plant. Students identified various cheeses, determining the milk-fat content of various milks, and identifying milk defects.

Participating groups had to put together a presentation and perform the California Mastitis Test.

In the individual competition, Riley Carter from HG Parkinson won first place; Cheyenne Rhodes from McGuffey won second; Crystal Czako from HG Parkinson won third; Morgan Zickefoose from HG Parkinson won fourth; and Ensley Clark from Trinity won fifth.

In the team competition, first place was HG Parkinson with members Destiny Hinton, Karis Zafuras, Riley Carter and Chloe Smith; second place was Trinity with members Josh Conkle, Erica Miller, Leah Lucas and Julian Burchett.

The 2018 FFA Knowledge Career Development Event was held Feb. 21 at Trinity High School. All four of the Washington County FFA chapters were represented. Students first took a written test on FFA content and then participated in a quiz bowl that tested knowledge on FFA topics as a team.

The first-place team was Fort Cherry HG Parkinson, with members Emilee Cowdin, Evelyn Dimoff, Alexa Miles and Sierra Vermuellen. Trinity won second place, with members Ensley Clark, Jilian Sander, Rebecca Conkle and Delaney Slesh.

In the individual competition, Ensley Clark won first; Alexa Miles and Sierra Vermeullen tied for second; and Jilian Sander and Dalaney Slesh tied for third.

Also on Feb. 21, Avella, McGuffey and Trinity participated in the Agricultural Sales Career Development Event. Teams of four presented a Beef Quality Assurance/Conservation scenario and took an individual multiple-choice test. The scenario included consulting a 100-head beef operation in Washington County. The students presented a 10- to 13- minute presentation on how they could improve the farm based off their recommendations.

In the individual competition, Marcus Subrick from McGuffey won first; Dylan Markel of Avella won second; Bailee Seamen of Trinity won third; Lindsay Haney of Trinity won fourth; and Austin Clark of McGuffey won fifth.

In the team presentation, Trinity won first with members Bailee Seamen, Linsey Haney, Josh Conkle and Jessica Cunningham. McGuffey won second with members Austin Clark, Marcus Subrick, Billy Loya and Evan Wright.
