Behind the Mask: Canonsburg Hospital anesthesiologist expecting second daughter in May
Editor’s note: Behind the Mask is a new series intended to offer a glimpse at area medical professionals who are working on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Dustin Jackson is an anesthesiologist at Allegheny Health Network Canonsburg Hospital. He and his wife, Laura, have a 20-month-old daughter and are expecting a second daughter in May. He enjoys craft beer, national parks, reading and Penn State football. He spends much of his free time chasing after his daughter.
Q. What is the best thing that happened to you this week?
My wife is due with our second daughter in May, so every day improves our chances of having a healthy baby.
Q. What’s something that everyone in the world can agree on?
Life is too short. Make the most of it!
Q. What topic could you spend hours talking about? Why?
History, mostly American and European. I’m a U.S. presidents buff. I think history is very important because it’s impossible to fully understand what’s happening today without knowing what’s happened before.
Q. Baseball players have a walk-up song that plays when they get up to bat. What would your walk-up song be?
Everlong by Foo Fighters. Great song, even better when performed live.
Q. What movies can you watch over and over again without getting tired of them?
Star Wars and James Bond movies. Some movies in each franchise are better than others, but as long as they keep making them, I’ll keep watching them.
Q. What food can you not get enough of?
Ice cream, pretty much any kind, though my favorite is Death by Chocolate from the Penn State Creamery.
Q. What do you want people to know about the COVID-19 pandemic?
We’ve spent countless hours preparing for this. We’re ready. Hopefully it won’t get as bad here as it has in other places, but we’re prepared. Once things start to get up and running again and we return to some form of “normal,” everyone should still be smart. Be aware of what you’re touching. Wash your hands.
