Apartment building, six homes damaged in Washington County fire


Heavy smoke filled the air as firefighters battled a blaze that originated at an apartment building at 141 Liberty St. in California Saturday afternoon.
At least four adults and 11 children are without a place to live after an apartment building and six homes were severely damaged in a Saturday afternoon fire in California.
According to a spokesperson for Washington County 911, the fire started in the apartment building at 141 Liberty St., and was reported at 12:15 p.m.
The spokesperson said at least 14 to 16 fire companies responded. As of 5:30 p.m. Saturday, firefighters remained on the scene to assess the damage.
The Red Cross and Salvation Army were called to help find lodging for those who were displaced. With temperatures in the 80s, the agencies also provided drinks for firefighters.
A spokesperson for Washington County 911 said no injuries were reported, and there were no reports of anyone being treated at the scene.
