It’s high school musical season!

Before taking the stage, actors are told to “break a leg.”
During a rehearsal for this weekend’s Chartiers-Houston High School production of “Xanadu,” Grace Baer unfortunately did just that.
The senior lost her footing on roller skates and fractured her right leg in three places. In the immediate aftermath, she wasn’t sure if she could carry on. She wondered, “How am I supposed to do a show with my leg in a cast?”
But, to borrow another phrase that performers use, Baer decided the show must go on.
To make that happen, she will be in Xanadu in a motorized wheelchair. The wheelchair has been lent to her by another student.
“We had to make some adjustments,” according to Nicole Tafe, a music teacher at the high school. “But the cast and the crew have been amazingly supportive.” Tafe also said Baer is a “very resilient, determined kid.”
“Xanadu” will be staged at the high school at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
“Xanadu” is one of many high school productions being presented in the area in the weeks ahead. To let everyone know what’s coming we reached out to all of the districts in Washington, Fayette and Greene counties to compile a list of their shows.
Whether you prefer tried and true classics or contemporary musicals, this list has something for everyone. We’ve provided the information, now it’s your turn. Get out the calendar and make your plans to come and support high school theater.
Some districts have not yet responded, so check Go! weekly for updates. For easy access to the listed ticket links, visit heraldstandard.com or observer-reporter.com.
