Covered Bridge Festival covers Washington and Greene counties Saturday and Sunday
Dating back to 1971, the Covered Bridge Festival celebrates some of the covered bridges that have been part of Washington and Greene counties for more than a century.
There are 30 covered bridges between the two counties, and nine of them will be part of this year’s Covered Bridge Festival, which happens every year during the third weekend of September.
Each location has an array of activities, including live music, historical reenactments, crafting demonstrations, homestyle foods and more. The Brownlee Bridge in McGuffey Community Park, for instance, will have antique tractor and equipment displays and wagon rides, and at the Wyit Sprowls Bridge in East Finley Township Park there will be a bounce house, tours of the Jordan Schoolhouse, a “Wild World of Animals” show and a chicken flying contest.
The other bridges that will be part of the festival are the Hughes Bridge in Amwell Township; the Ebenezer and Henry bridges, both in Mingo Creek County Park; the McClurg Bridge in Hanover Township Park; the Pine Bank Bridge at the Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village; the Carmichaels Bridge; and the White Bridge in Garards Fort.
