Jazz festival
Eight of the region’s top professional jazz bands will perform in the first Cal U. Jazz Festival from noon to 9 p.m. May 4 at California University of Pennsylvania.
The Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra, Salsamba, Paul Consentino & the Boilermaker Jazz Band, the Balcony Big Band and other well-known bands will perform.
The Cal U. Big Band and the Cal U. Bebop Quintets also perform.
Performances will be held in Steele Hall Mainstage Theatre, Morgan Hall auditorium and recital room 107 in Gallagher Hall, which houses the Music Department.
The schedule includes:
• Cal U. Big Band, noon to 1 p.m.
• Cal U. “Trane” Bebop Quintet, 1 to 2 p.m.
• Balcony Big Band, 2 to 3 p.m.
• Ken Karsh Trio, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
• Cal U. “Bird” Bebop Quintet, 3 to 4 p.m.
• Salsamba, 4 to 5 p.m.
• Washington Jazz Society Big Band, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
• Tom Roberts, 5 to 6 p.m.
• Paul Consentino & the Boilermaker Jazz Band, 6 to 7 p.m.
• Mon Valley Jazz Orchestra, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
• Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra, 8 to 9 p.m.
Tickets will be available at on the day of the festival; no advance ticket sales are planned. Members of the campus community will be admitted free with a valid CalCard. All other tickets are $10 and include parking.
