History center to explore canines
In conjunction with its new Pennsylvania’s Civil War exhibition, the Senator John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh will explore the history of canines in the Civil War and welcome dozens of local service, working and therapy dogs from agencies throughout the region as part of a special Hero Dogs of Western Pennsylvania event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
The event also will feature a curator talk, where visitors will learn more about Dog Jack, a brown and white mixed terrier who served in Company F of the 102nd Pennsylvania Volunteers during the Civil War.
