Celebrity Q&A

Q. Why did Brooke Anderson leave her co-anchor post at “The Insider” for a position at “Entertainment Tonight?” – Toni Leskovar, Milwaukee

A. The former CNN and HLN showbiz correspondent had expected to stay with the syndicated program when it converted into “omg! Insider” recently, but Thea Andrews – a former member of the “ET” staff – was brought in to anchor with Kevin Frazier, who also had come from “ET.”

Anderson was offered the opportunity to go to the other show, which follows “ET” in many markets across the country … and also keeps her in an area of reporting that she knows very well.

Q. Jennifer Nettles clearly was pregnant on the most recent “CMA Country Christmas” special, but I thought I read she’d had her baby by then. What’s the story? – Karen Graves, Stuart, Fla.

A.The story is pretty simple. That special traditionally is taped right after the Country Music Association Awards are staged each November, while all of the involved parties are still in Nashville.

Nettles was still expecting at that point, and she and husband Justin Miller then welcomed a son on Dec. 6 … before ABC gave the latest “CMA Country Christmas” its first telecast on Dec. 20. In hosting the show, Sugarland lead singer Nettles joked about being in “a family way”

during the taping.

Q. I saw “White Christmas” on AMC several times during the holidays, and it started by saying it was the first movie shown in “VistaVision.”

What is that? – John Nelson, Buffalo, N.Y.

A. It was the Paramount studio’s version of what 20th Century Fox billed as CinemaScope, both of them widescreen processes that enabled the picture to cover a wider area of the theater screen while keeping the image in reasonably sharp focus. Panavision would come along later and largely take the place of such other processes, but VistaVision was quite a big deal when Paramount unveiled it at the premiere of “White Christmas” at New York’s Radio City Music Hall in the fall of 1954.

Q.Will “CSI: NY” return for another year? – Joe Phillips, Glen Burnie, Md.

A. That’s a question that doesn’t have an answer yet, likely to the chagrin of the cast and crew members who found themselves in a similar boat last season. On the heels of the just-aired crossover episode with

“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” the CBS drama airs its Season 9 finale Feb. 22, and “NY” star Gary Sinise told us he doesn’t expect to know his program’s fate by then. Since there was just that crossover, though, we’d say there’s reason for optimism.
