AARP 55 Alive Refresher driving course will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 15 in the Education Conference Center at Monongahela Valley Hospital. The course is designed for motorists 50 and older. It is intended to help improve skills while teaching accident and traffic violation avoidance. Some insurance companies offer discounts for course completion. All information is conveyed in a classroom setting. Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. Registration is required by calling 724-258-1333.

Bariatric surgery information session will be presented by Dr. Ramesh Ramanathan at 6 p.m. July 15 in the Education Conference Center at Monongahela Valley Hospital. Bariatric surgery is an option for people wanting to lose 100 pounds or more. MVH has teamed up with Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC to provide the free information session. Advanced Carbohydrate Counting will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. July 17 in the Education Conference Center at Monongahela Valley Hospital. Topics range from how to measure the upward drive each meal has on blood sugar to information on the glycemic index. Completion of the three-day “Diabetes Self-Management Training” is a prerequisite.
