Maggi roast a benefit for trolley museum
Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi will be roasted March 15 to benefit the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum.
Titled “Gifts of the Maggi,” the event will be held from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn at Southpointe.
“The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum is one of the gems of Washington County, preserving a means of transportation from a bygone era and bringing history to life for all ages in a unique way,” Maggi said.
A panel of “roasters” is being assembled, and Tripp Kline of Three Rivers Auction Co. will be the auctioneer. Jeff Kotula, president of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, will serve as master of ceremonies.
The museum opened to the public almost 50 years ago, on June 23, 1963, to preserve and interpret Pennsylvania’s trolley era. Tom Rooney, roast committee chairman and PTM trustee, said, “This is a kickoff event for our 50th year of public operation, and it is very appropriate that Larry Maggi, being one of the top elected officials in the county, be the subject of our roast in our 50th anniversary year. This fundraising event literally helps to keep the trolleys running.”
Scott Becker, executive director of the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum, added, “Larry Maggi has been a great friend of the museum for many years and has visited the museum many times as a visitor with his family. … He’s been such an advocate for the entire area, especially the trolley museum, that we thought this would be a great opportunity.”
The museum provides a living history experience, complete with trolley rides, and preserves a collection of 50 historic streetcars from throughout Pennsylvania and beyond.
The roast will include dinner and an auction. Among the auction items are signed guitars from Kenny Chesney and Kenny Rogers, a signed hockey sweater from Chris Kunitz of the Pittsburgh Penguins, sports memorabilia and tickets to sports and entertainment events.
Tickets are $150 per person or $1,000 for tables of eight and can be purchased at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum. Tickets include hors d’oeuvres, dinner and entertainment. There will be a cash bar. Part of the ticket price is a tax-deductible contribution. For more information, visit www.patrolley.org, email vsm@pa-trolley.org or call 724-228-9256.
