Blues Challenge at Clarion Hotel

The Blues Society of Western Pennsylvania will host its ninth annual Blues Challenge April 13 at the Clarion Hotel, 401 Holiday Drive, Pittsburgh.

The competition will be held from 2 to 11 p.m. Doors will open at 1 pm.

Fifteen bands and solos/duo acts will present 20-minute performances that will be judged on musical talent, vocals, presentation, blues content and originality. A winning band will be awarded $1,000 and a winning solo or duo act will be awarded $500. Each winner will represent the BSWPA at the 2014 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn.

Tickets for BSWPA members are $10; students with valid identification, $6; and general admission, $12. Tickets will be available at the door.

A Blues Breakfast will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. April 14, with entertainment provided by Ms. Freddye & Co. The breakfast is open to the public for a fee. Special room rates are available at the Clarion until April 1.
