Veterans Day observances

A Veterans Day ceremony to remember and honor all military members who have served or are serving the United States will begin at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville.

Keynote speaker will be Col. Edward E. Metzgar, commander of the 171st Air Refueling Wing

In addition, ceremonial taps will be played, with a rifle salute by the South Hills Honor Guard, along with musical selections by the Canon-McMillan High School band and Kate Matthews. Also, a ceremonial wreath will be placed in honor of all POW/MIAs.

Hickory Lions Club will sponsor its fifth Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 in the Allison Memorial Auditorium at the Mt. Pleasant Township Community Center, 20 Wabash Ave., Hickory.

All veterans will be recognized, and the program will be dedicated to the late John (Jack) Caldwell for his tireless work in recognizing veterans in the Hickory area.

In a roll-call ceremony, 28 veterans who died while serving in the military will be remembered by a family member, friend or a Lions Club member. Hickory Lions Club members, Pastor Bob Shull, pianist Terry Divelbliss, vocalist Carolyn Smith, Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi and Boy Scouts will participate in the program. Refreshments will be served afterward in the Rainbow Room.
