Craft show benefits Finleyville teenager
St. Francis of Assisi High School Youth Ministry will hold a vendor craft show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 10 at Finley Hall, 3609 Washington Ave., Finleyville, to benefit 15-year-old Austin Manz of Finleyville.
Austin was born with a mitochondrial disease, which limits energy production and leaves him with little to no muscle tone. He also had a tracheostomy when he was 13 months old.
Austin requires 24-hour care, and while he receives home nursing care on scheduled shifts, most of his care is provided by family members. He also relies on several medical machines, such as a ventilator, suction machine, cough assist and feeding pump. The family needs to have a commercial generator installed in their home in case of a power loss to keep Austin’s machines working.
In addition, Austin requires medication and other medical supplies not covered by insurance. A Hoyer track system was donated to the family to assist with moving Austin, but professional installation is required.
Proceeds from the craft show will help defray Austin’s medical costs.
Besides crafts, food and refreshments will be sold, and there will be a bake sale, 50/50 drawing and a Chinese auction. The youth group also will sell hanging baskets.
