Blue Moon Weekend at Science Center
Carnegie Science Center’s Big Blue Summer continues Saturday and Sunday with Blue Moon Weekend, the second of three blue-themed weekends this summer featuring the Science Center’s newest exhibit, BLUE!
During Blue Moon events, guests can celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing by exploring the connections between scientific advances and the human imagination. Visitors will learn about current space travel, including going back to the moon, and how it differs from what is seen on the big screen.
Artists from Tom Savini’s Special Make-Up Effects Program will demonstrate how Hollywood makeup can transform an ordinary human into an otherworldly creature. Guests can pose with a UFO hovering atop the city’s skyline, dance to science-fiction tunes, watch “Frankenscience,” and befriend a Stormtrooper or a Rebel Alliance character. Blue Moon Weekend activities are free with general admission costs.
In addition, local artists Wil E. Tri and Ernie Hawkins will play blues tunes at 1 p.m. Saturday in the BLUE! exhibit gallery. Tri is the premier blues harmonica player in the Pittsburgh area and has been playing for more than 40 years. Hawkins is a Pittsburgh-born blues and folk guitarist. He has played across the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan.
