WCCF announces several grant opportunities
The Washington County Community Foundation is accepting applications for the following Field of Interest Funds:
Abernathy Fund for Conservation – One grant of $2,000 is available. Requests are accepted for conservation projects in Washington County. The fund was created by the Abernathy Family in 1999 to support conservation projects in Washington County and to provide support to Washington & Jefferson College for upkeep of the Abernathy Nature Preserve.
Arts Fund – One grant of $10,000 is available. Requests are accepted for arts education and arts appreciation, including the performing, visual and creative arts, as well as cultural and historic projects in Washington County.
Canonsburg Community Fund – One grant of $100 is available. Requests are accepted for charitable projects benefiting the community of Canonsburg. The fund was created by the WCCF board of trustees with proceeds from a Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra concert held at Canon-McMillan High School in February 2004.
Craig Gnagey Memorial Fund – One grant of $500 is available. Requests are accepted for youth projects benefiting the communities served by the Trinity and Washington school districts. The fund was created by the family and friends of Gnagey, who enjoyed athletics and giving back to the community, particularly through youth programming.
McBride-McMaster Fund – Grants totaling $3,500 are available. Requests are accepted for projects that support the needy or promote historic education or preservation. The fund was created by the late Dr. Gilbert and Margaret McBride McMaster. Gilbert McMaster worked as an anesthesiologist at Washington Hospital, and his wife was involved with numerous local charities.
James C. Miller Memorial Fund – One grant of $125 is available. Requests are accepted for projects benefiting the victims of violent crimes and/or their families. The fund was created by the family and friends of Miller, who was a vice president and co-owner of Kadon Corp.
Mother’s Fund – One grant of $10,000 is available. Requests are accepted for projects that benefit disadvantaged women and/or children in Washington County, as well as other charitable activities in Washington County.
Neighborhood Drug Awareness Corps Fund – One grant of $1,000 is available. Requests are accepted for community drug and alcohol prevention programs. The fund was created by the dissolving board of the Neighborhood Drug Awareness Corps and approved by Washington County Orphans Court.
Joseph F. Perkins Fund – One grant of $100 is available. Requests are accepted for youth projects in the Burgettstown area. The fund was created by a bequest from the estate of Perkins, a Burgettstown native who was an inventor with a strong interest in astrology and numerology.
Community Endowment for Peters Township – One grant of $2,000 is available. Requests are accepted for projects that benefit the community of Peters Township. The fund was created by WCCF with proceeds of a Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra concert held at Peters Township High School in June 2002.
Judge Samuel L. Rodgers Fund – One grant of $250 is available. Requests are accepted for literacy projects in Washington County. The fund was created by Marta Rodgers-Merchant to honor her father on his 80th birthday. Rodgers, who served on both the Commonwealth Court and the Washington County Court of Common Pleas, is deceased.
Vitullo Family Fund – One grant of $150 is available. Requests are accepted for charitable projects that benefit the community of Canonsburg. The fund was created by the family and friends of Eutimio R. and Elizabeth G. Vitullo, a couple who shared a passion for volunteering.
Washington County Youth Conservation Camp Fund – One grant of $125 is available. Requests are accepted for conservation projects, particularly those that educate youth about conservation. The fund was created by the former Washington County Youth Conservation Camp.
Women of Philanthropy Grants – Grants totaling $2,000 are available. Requests are accepted for projects that benefit disadvantaged women and/or children in Washington County, as well as other charitable activities in Washington County.
