Hunger Services, which provides emergency food assistance, food for early development and food stamps for prescreening and enrollment, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 27. Both programs will be the same. The presentations are funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.
The 32nd annual chess tournament for first- through 12th-graders will be held from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 29. The three divisions are junior, for first- through fourth-graders; intermediate, fifth- through eighth-graders; and senior, ninth- through 12th-graders. First- and second-place trophies will be awarded in each division. The tournament will be divided into five rounds, with all entrants playing in all rounds. Advance registration is required by 8 p.m. March 27. A copy of the Chess Tournament Guidelines is available at registration in the Children’s Department.
College Bound: Advanced Placement will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 31. Students will learn how to use the online Testing & Education Reference Center to study for advanced placement tests. Free practice tests, study guides, tips and resources will be provided. Registration is requested. Students are encouraged to bring their own laptops or tablets. A limited number of laptops is available.
Book of the month is “NYPD Red 2” by James Patterson.
CitiBooks, a used books bookstore in the lower level of the library, is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. All proceeds benefit the library.
