Rachel Wilkinson of California Area High School recently received the Service Excellence Award at the Amelia Earhart Awards dinner sponsored by the Zonta Club of Washington County.

Wilkinson was chosen not only for the total amount of her volunteer service hours, but also the various areas in which she serves.

She is an active junior firefighter with the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department; volunteers as a cheer coach with the California Youth Football Association; is working on her Gold Award with her Girl Scout troop; and volunteers with Toys for Tots.

She also has donated several hours to Alex’s Lemonade Stand, Center in the Woods, the National Breast Cancer Association, the California Art Show and the Washington Women’s Shelter, for which she has raised money, assisted with art sales, cleaned children’s toys and created cards for distribution during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

She has received the Penn State University 4.0 Club Award, is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and has participated in the Southwestern American Health Education Center.

Wilkinson is president of her class at California, president of SADD, vice president of the Leo Club, captain of the cheerleading squad, co-captain of the varsity tennis team and a 2013 alumni of the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership program.

Her parents are Thomas and Sherry Wilkinson.
