Powers, actor in ‘Mike Hammer’ television series, dies at age 64

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) – Actor Alton “Ben” Powers, known for his role in the 1980s CBS television series “Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer,” died at 64.

Auclair Funeral Home, which is handling arrangements, said Powers died April 6 in New Bedford, Mass. Details were not released.

He appeared as “Moochie” in the “Mike Hammer” series staring Stacey Keach, and played football player Keith Anderson, the third husband of Thelma Evans (Bern Nadette Stanis) in “Good Times.”

Powers, a Brooklyn, N.Y., native, was brought up by his grandparents in Providence, Rhode Island. He attended the Rhode Island School of Design, and began his acting career at the Trinity Repertory Theater in Providence.

His first TV roles were on NBC’s “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-in.”
