CINCINNATI (AP) — Daniel von Bargen, who played George Costanza’s boss on “Seinfeld,” has died. He was 64.

Harry Gilligan, owner of Gilligan Funeral Homes, confirmed to The Associated Press on Thursday that von Bargen died Sunday in the Cincinnati area. He says he couldn’t provide the cause. WLWT-TV first reported the death.

Von Bargen was probably best known for his roles as the dim-witted Mr. Kruger on “Seinfeld” and as Commandant Edwin Spangler on “Malcom in the Middle.” His film credits include “The Silence of the Lambs,” “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” and “Lord of Illusions.”

The actor made headlines in 2012 when he called 911 after shooting himself in the temple. He told police he was supposed to have some toes amputated that day due to diabetes complications.
