Teen Outreach to present awards

Washington Hospital Teen Outreach will hold its 13th annual Awards Night at 7 p.m. Thursday at Trinity High School. The event recognizes individuals, agencies and businesses that have provided extraordinary support to Teen Outreach. Senior peer educators also will be recognized.

Peer educator members from the Real Talk Performers will perform two educational dramas. “Visible” was written by Toni Maurer and Shelby Studt, and will be performed by the Washington School District Junior High advisory board. “Fifty Shades of Social Justice” will be performed by RTP players from Trinity and Washington high schools.

Brianna King, winner of Washington’s Got Talent, and Anthony D’Orazio and Jonathan Florian, second-place winners, also will perform.

Award winners are:

• Business Award – Randall Roberts Photography

• Community Award – Darlene Bigler of Community Action Southwest.

• Educator Award – Nicole Welsh, teacher, Trinity High School

• Fellowship Award – Fools for Christ, Bob Stark.

• Inclusion Award – Jennifer Lanas, teacher and GSA adviser, Trinity High School.

• Pioneer Award – Dan Reitz

• President’s Award – Michele Tomicek, principal, South Central Elementary School, Canon McMillan School District.

• School Administrator Award – Dr. Michael Lucas, superintendent, Trinity School District, and Frank Rotunda, principal, Washington High School.

• Service Award – Cheryl Hopper

• Social Justice Award – David Gatling, Washington NAACP, and the following individuals/groups for inspiring the 2014 Solidarity Statement for Racial Justice in Sexuality Education – Bill Taverner, Center for Sex Ed; Cindy Lee Alves, Women of Color Sexual Health Network; and Dr. Eli R. Green

• Spirit Award – Karen Bennett, Greene County Department of Health and Human Services

• Youth Achievement Award – Sara Buchheit and Sam Luba

• Youth Advocate Award: Phi Kappa Psi, Emil Ihnat and Ezekiel Stroupe, and Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kristianna Bancroft

• Volunteer Award – Serena Green, Cassidy Hiles, Kellie Mendicino and Malik Wells for volunteering above and beyond as peer educators, and Nathan Staso, Robert Dittrich and the Trinity School District JROTC for their commitment to Washington’s Got Talent
