Lawmaker loses case to reclaim dog from woman who adopted it
LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania lawmaker can’t get her dog back from a woman who adopted it four months ago, even if the woman’s yard wasn’t up to her standards.
State Rep. Kathy Watson sued her dog Molly’s adopter Paula Witmer after she had second thoughts about the size of the woman’s yard. Witmer had refused to return the pet.
Witmer, of Lancaster, counter-sued. She uses a motorized scooter because of multiple sclerosis and says she adopted the five-year-old West Highland Terrier for emotional support.
Watson, a Republican who represents suburban Philadelphia’s 144th District, began seeking a new home for Molly in July after she became aggressive toward Watson’s other Westie.
The judge ruled Thursday Watson had found her pet a good home.
Watson has 30 days to appeal.
