The Orchid Society of Western Pennsylvania will host a Fall Orchid Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Phipps Garden Center, 1059 Shady Ave., Shadyside.

There will be an exhibit of blooming orchids, lectures, plant raffles and orchid vendors. Growing supplies that are difficult to find locally also will be available.

In addition, there will be an orchid-potting station. Those who attend can bring orchids to be repotted, up to 6-inch pots. OSWP will provide the potting material, and society members will repot orchids and answer questions. Cost is $5 per pot.

Each day, a series of educational classes and lectures that will highlight tips on growing healthy orchids will be offered. They include:

• 11:30a.m. – “Bulbophyllums Demistified,” Tim Choltco, an OSWP member;

• 12:45p.m. – “What Is My Orchid Trying to Tell Me?,” Edgar Stehil of Windswept in Time Orchids, Broadview Heights, Ohio;

• 2 p.m. – “Adaptations for Orchid Growing,” Jim Marlow, Marlow Orchids, Scottsville, N.Y.;

• 3:15p.m. – “How to Kill an Orchid,” Barry Jones, Orchid Outlet in Ohio.

• 11:30 a.m. – “Hardy Orchids,” Wayne Roberts, Roberts Flower Supply, Columbia Station, Ohio;
