Cal to hold auditions for its holiday show
California University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Theatre and Dance, along with the Mon Valley Dance Council, will audition performers Saturday for its holiday show, “Miracle on 34th Street.”
The musical is based on the 20th Century Fox film, will be performed Dec. 4-7 in the Mainstage Theatre.
Auditions will be held in Steele Hall at Cal U. Male and female performers of all ages will be considered. The production team needs a dancer only and actors/singers/dancers of all ages.
Dancers should dress appropriately and bring all shoes. Actors/singers/dancers should come prepared to dance and prepare a selection from musical theater that is between 16 and 32 bars in length.
Auditions for the various roles will be held as follows:
Dancer only, ages 6 through adult – 10 a.m. to noon. Dancers must arrive at 9:30 a.m. to fill out paperwork. Those who audition may be considered for the ensemble and must attend that scheduled audition. No acting or singing is required.
Susan – 10 to 11 a.m. Actors must arrive at 9:30 a.m. to fill out paperwork. Bring sheet music; no a capella singing or recorded accompaniment is permitted. The character is a young girl who is city smart and wise beyond her years. Those who audition may be asked to attend a callback at 4 p.m.
Kris Kringle – 11 a.m. to noon. Actors must arrive at 10:30 a.m. to fill out paperwork. Bring sheet music; no a capella singing or recorded accompaniment is permitted. The character is a charming, peace-filled older man who resembles the man, rather than the myth. Those who audition may be asked to attend a callback at 4 p.m.
Children’s ensemble, actors, singers and dancers 5 to 12 years old – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Must arrive at 10:30 a.m. to fill out paperwork. Bring sheet music; no a capella singing or recorded accompaniment is permitted. Bring clothes and shoes for the dance portion.
There are several musical numbers involving the ensembles. Those who audition may be asked to attend a callback at 4 p.m.
Teen and adult ensemble – 2 to 4 p.m. Participants must arrive at 1:30 p.m. to fill out paperwork. Bring sheet music; no a capella singing or recorded accompaniment is permitted. Bring clothes and shoes for the dance portion.
Actors, singers and dancers are needed to fill the New York City streets, courtroom, Macy’s store and other scenes.
