The 2016 annual Pittsburgh Daffodil Show, presented by the Daffodil and Hosta Society of Western Pennsylvania, will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Shady Side Academy Senior School ice rink, 423 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh.

The show is being held in conjunction with the Penn State Extension of Allegheny County Garden and Landscape Symposium and the Master Gardeners’ Marketplace of Western Pennsylvania.

With the extreme changes in the weather this year, the plants seem to be confused. Some are three to four weeks ahead of a “normal” spring, while others aren’t even showing yet.

Participants are encouraged to enter as many flowers as they’d like. Only flowers grown out in the open will be accepted. Bring the daffodils’ names, if known, and any other available information. Growers will be available to explain how flowers should be entered.

Show setup will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Friday. After setup, exhibitors can groom, stage and enter their blooms from 3 to 10 p.m. Flowers also can be entered from 6 to 7:45 a.m. Saturday.

For experienced exhibitors, there are various sections and classes, and many awards and ribbons – both local and national. For novices, there is a “Small Growers Section” for those who grow 50 or fewer cultivars. There also is an “Amateur Section” for those who don’t know the names of their daffodils.

Other sections include Design (arrangements), Photography, Potted Daffodil Bulbs and Educational Displays. The show is free.
