Ringgold to induct 8 into Hall of Fame

The Ringgold Rams Booster Club will hold its annual Hall of Fame Banquet at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 5 in the Ringgold High School cafeteria.

Money raised will benefit the advancement of the arts, academic and athletic programs, as well as the improvement of facilities throughout the Ringgold school system. Last year’s banquet raised more than $5,000, which was awarded to six programs in the district, including:

• A lifetime membership for Education.com and the Brainzy Learning Program for teachers at Ringgold North Elementary School.

• An “Elmo Projector” to enhance math learning.

• Materials for the autistic unit.

• A fee was provided for participation in the Science Olympiad program.

• Chair pockets for books and folders for second-graders, which will be provided.

• Development and implementation of summer STREAM Camp.

Inductees in the Class of 2016 will be:

• Ryan Cook, Class of 1990, academic and athletic standout and successful financial adviser.

• Dr. James Duda, Donora Class of 1959, doctor of science in engineering and administration who is working with the NASA space program.

• Jim Garry (posthumous induction), a graduate of Monongahela High School, Pennsyvlania Football Hall of Fame coach of numerous professional players and coaches.

• Doug Haniford, Class of 1987, owner and publisher of the South Hills-Mon Valley Messenger community newspaper.

• Susan F. Hirsch, Donora Class of 1978, a cultural anthropologist and author.

• Chuck Smith, Monongahela Class of 1973, academic and athletic standout and business owner.

• Tom Urbanik, Donora Class of 1960, academic and athletic standout from high school through his professional career.

• Michael Weiss, Donora High School graduate, tax attorney and co-founder and managing director of Keevican Weiss Bauerle and Hirsch LLC.

Tickets are $40 and will be available toward the end of September at Devore Hardware, 437 W. Main St., Monongahela, or by calling 724-258-7100.
